With the power of gospel and the precision of Broadway, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is the undisputed king of mbube, South African a cappella singing. The multi-Grammy-winning group came together in the early 1960s and continues to thrill audiences around the world with its strong, proud melodies harmonized in layers of call and response.
For over 20 years, Global Arts Live has presented Ladysmith Black Mambazo annually each winter. We are thrilled to continue this lengthy tradition by hosting an exclusive virtual concert recorded live from eWushini Arts Centre in Durban, South Africa. The backdrop of the Arts Centre shows the stunning Inanda Dam and surrounding mountains and transports you direct into the magnificent beauty of South Africa.
The stream will premiere on Feb 13, 8pm EST and will be accessible until Feb 20, 11:59pm.
Don't miss a Conversation with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, streaming free on Feb 4, 8pm EST. Global Arts Live Executive Director Maure Aronson talks with three members of Ladysmith about subjects that range from their early days of winning singing competitions to their Paul Simon collaboration and worldwide acclaim.
